The Sustainable Collection is a curation of premium, eco-conscious home and travel goods. Everything in our store has been hand selected, with a focus on quality, design, low impact and functionality.
Our mission is to source ethically made, all-natural, sustainable alternatives to single-use products for everyday life. We want our customers to buy well, and buy once.
Since the 1950s an estimated 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic has been produced and (ourworldindata.org) forecasts a forty per cent growth in plastic production in the coming decade.
It shocked me to learn that a million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute. On average, it takes four hundred years for plastic to degrade, so most of the plastic manufactured still exists in some form, and much of it ends up in our oceans. Furthermore, it is estimated that by 2050, ocean plastic pollution will outweigh the global fish population.
It’s an overwhelming problem, but we have a voice. Global trends respond to the consumer dollar and many small steps lead to big change. Choosing to reject single-use products by insisting on well considered, long lasting alternatives is a collective and loud vote for a better future for our planet.
Living a low waste, more intentional life can be cost-effective and rewarding. The Sustainable Collective is here to make those alternatives more accessible.
We collaborate with ethical brands and small-batch makers who are also striving to make a positive environmental impact. We are currently working with brands and manufacturers from Australia, USA, Europe, China and Vietnam.
Meet the Founder
Hi, I'm Jessie, I live on a ten acre property out of town in the Burnett Region of Queensland, Australia, with my husband and our two boys.
When we’re not working on our hydroponics farm or building SC, you’ll find us outside, enjoying nature. We believe creating a life of less, a slower life is a more connected one.
I have always been passionate about natural health; focusing on keeping fit, naturopathy, and eating nutritious foods. As I’ve grown, my ideas about health have expanded to include the environment.
We are all together on this beautiful planet and I'm learning that personal and environmental health go hand in hand.
As a family, we have made hundreds of big and little choices in our shift towards a more intentional and sustainable lifestyle; from deciding to make our home and business solar powered to experimenting with homemade dish soap, we are always coming across new ways to make a difference.
As we’ve reached out into our community, we’ve found many like-minded people equally concerned about the devastating environmental impact of household waste and plastic, also struggling to source high quality, plastic free, reusable alternatives.
I really get it, all of us want to do better, but in the rush of family life, practicality and convenience take precedence.
And so we created The Sustainable Collection; to make practical, reusable products accessible to everyone.
When you buy from us, please know you are buying from a passionate advocate for every one of our products. Every item in our store is there because we use it and love it.
We certainly aren’t perfect, but I’m proud of the effort we are making and I am delighted to have you join us for the adventure.
This isn’t a race, and there’s no finish line. It is slow, imperfect, collaborative and evolving. If we can inspire each other to live our lives making considered choices then our work here will be done.
